Bryan Hulbert – CANEY, Kan. (June 12, 2022) Wrapping up the 2022 Sooner 600 Week at Caney Valley Speedway on Sunday night, the Lucas Oil National Open Wheel 600 Series presented by Hi-Plains Building Division saw 64 entries across A-Class, Stock Non-Wing, and Restricted with Frank Flud, Chelby Hinton, and Jett Nunley returning to Victory Lane.

Getting the lead early in A-Class, Flud was by far the class of the field with every restart challenge accepted the thwarted. Earning his 17th win of the season, the Sunday showdown was a historic moment for the Oklahoma shoe, who collected his 600th career victory, and 122nd overall in NOW600 National competition. Working to second late, the No. 7k of Kenton Brewer worked there from 14th, with Brody Brown third. Riley Osantowski and Trey Zorn completed the top five.

Getting his seventh overall win of the 2022 season and seventh all-time in Stock Non-Wing, Louisiana’s Chelby Hinton made the late race run on the No. 81 for the Caney Valley win. Dashing under Flud through the first and second turns, Flud nearly lost the handle as the No. 28 raced by. Recovering, Flud was able to hold on for second, with William Connor third from 11th. Austin Torgerson and Keegan Osantowski made up the first five finishers.

In a back-and-forth battle through most of the Restricted A-Feature with Scout Spraggins, the No. 33 of Jett Nunley finally prevailed for his 10th win of the 2022 season. Winning four of five in Restricted during Sooner 600 Week, the win is the Marlow, Okla. driver’s 11th with the Lucas Oil National Open Wheel 600 Series presented by Hi-Plains Building Division. Problems in the closing laps of the feature, Spraggins would end up 11th. Leaving Garyn Howard to chase, he would pick up where the No. 10s left off but could not get deny Nunley. Lathe Griggs was third, with Ryder McCutcheon having to roll from last after getting spun on the first start to finish fourth. Brody Brown crossed fifth.

With Sooner 600 Week in the books, the Lucas Oil National Open Wheel 600 Series presented by Hi-Plains Building Division will take a break. Action is set to resume on Tuesday, July 12 at Red Dirt Raceway for Tuesday Night Thunder. More information on the event will be posted as it draws closer.
