Fairgrounds Speedway Opens NOW600 Desert Region Season This Weekend

DRUMRIGHT, Okla. (May 12, 2020) - The NOW600 Hi Plains Building Division Desert Region will open their 2020 season at the Fairgrounds Speedway in Cortez, Colorado this weekend.

Very strict CDC guidelines will be in place during this event. Below is copied from the Fairgrounds Speedway Facebook page.

Racing Friday at 7pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 5pm.

Car and Driver will be $60 for all classes except for Youth Sport Compacts where it will be $35. This gets the Car & Driver into the gate.

Pit Passes are $35 for adults, $20 for children under 12 unless racing. Under 5 is free!

Unfortunately, we will not be able to have our grandstands open, or concessions.

We will pit cars a minimum of twenty (20) feet apart for CDC recommendations and we will be using Facebook Live along with MyRacePass to avoid mass gatherings.

Everyone will need to wear a face covering when interacting with others and not in their pit stalls or cars and stay 6 feet away from others who are not in their crew at all times.

Instead of handshakes and hugs, we will bring back the salute and wave. We want to be able to keep racing after opening weekend and with your cooperation it can be done.

The running order will be posted on the Fairgrounds Speedway Facebook page on May 15. That will be the running order for all weekend. It will be your responsibility to be in staging on time. We will not wait on anybody.

The drivers meeting time will be posted at the back pit booth and on Facebook. The drivers meeting will be Facebook Live on the Fairgrounds Speedway Facebook page. It will be your responsibility to watch it.

Pill Draw will be done via computer. We will be Facebook Live during Pill Draw. The redraw will be done by computer as well and also will be on Facebook Live. Lineups will be posted on MyRacePass. If you don’t have Facebook and MyRacePass on your phone, please get with someone who does.

Without concessions and Front Gate, the pay won’t be as much as we would like, but it will be handed out after the races each night by an official.

  • People taking money will wear gloves and facial coverings
  • Please come prepared with a check or exact change
  • Cash exchanges will by disinfected
  • Drivers will be paid with a check

All participants will be checked for symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath and recent lack of taste) and the symptom screening will be documented.

  • Do not come if you are sick
  • Anyone who has symptoms will have to leave
  • Restrooms will be properly stocked and sanitized
  • Sheriff’s Pose will be present for enforcement
  • A log will be kept of all the attendants with phone numbers and addresses in case someone contracts COVID-19 and contact tracing has to be done.

By popular request, we are adding the A Mods to opening weekend. We know there are plenty in the area just itching to go racing.
If you are planning on racing, please go to https://www.myracepass.com/tracks/3516/registrations/2660 and pre-register. If you don’t have a MyRacePass account, please create one. It is FREE! This will help us plan for the weekend better. It is imperative that everyone registers so we know how many cars to accommodate etc.
