26 Promotions – Ventura, CA – (June 7th, 2017) – Jarrett Martin and his dad made the last-minute decision to head to Ventura, California Friday night to compete in Saturday's inaugural USAC Micro National Series event at Ventura Raceway.

“We started the night by checking out the track and facility,” said Martin. “It was the first micro race there in a really long time, so we figured everybody was somewhat on a level playing field.”

Martin qualified twelfth with a fast lap of 13.435.

“They let everyone go out and run a couple of laps at the beginning of the night to check our gearing,” he said. “I felt like we were pretty close and that it would only get better. We ran hot laps and the track was starting to slick off a bit, so we made some adjustments for qualifying. The car was a lot better, but I couldn’t quite put a lap together.”

Martin’s qualifying result lined him up on the pole for Heat 3 but fell back to finish fourth lining him up on the outside of the sixth row for the start of the twenty lap Feature.

“After seeing track some track prep prior to the Heat, I wanted to take out adjustments back out. That was a mistake, the track was as slick as earlier when we went out for our Heat,” he explained. “There was a lot of time before our Feature and between watching races and keeping up on the track prep, we knew we should be set up well for the Main.”

Martin worked his way up to eighth in the first five laps of the Feature but was unable to avoid a wreck in front of him, leading to him having to pull into the infield early.

“I could tell the car was good from the first couple laps and it was only getting better,” he said. “We were involved in a wreck in turn 4 and it bent up some parts in the rear end. Coming out of turn two after the next restart we threw the chain.”

Martin was credited with a sixteenth-place finish.

Martin is off this weekend and returns to action at Canyon Speedway Park on June 17th.
